Emotional Difficulties

A safe, supportive space to explore difficult emotions, understand yourself more deeply and build healthier ways of coping.

What are emotional difficulties?

At times, emotions can feel overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to manage. You may find yourself experiencing intense feelings that seem hard to understand, express, or cope with, or perhaps feeling disconnected from your emotions altogether. Emotional difficulties can affect how we think, relate to others, and navigate everyday life.

These challenges may be linked to current life circumstances, past experiences, relationship difficulties, stress, trauma, loss, or periods of significant change.

Common signs and experiences

  • Feeling overwhelmed by emotions
  • Difficulty identifying or expressing feelings
  • Intense sadness, anger, anxiety, or shame
  • Mood fluctuations
  • Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected
  • Frequent crying or emotional outbursts
  • Difficulty coping with stress
  • Feeling stuck, lost, or uncertain about yourself
  • Struggles with self-criticism or low self-worth

How I work

Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore your emotional world with curiosity and compassion. Together, we can develop a deeper understanding of your feelings, where they may have come from, and how they are affecting your life and relationships.

As an Art Psychotherapist, Integrative Counsellor, and CBT Therapist, I recognise that emotions are not problems to be eliminated but important sources of information about our experiences, needs, and relationships. Through talking therapy, creative exploration, and evidence-based approaches, we can work towards understanding difficult emotions rather than becoming overwhelmed by them.

Art psychotherapy can be particularly helpful when feelings are hard to put into words, providing an alternative way of expressing and processing emotions. CBT-informed techniques may also support emotional awareness, regulation, and the development of healthier coping strategies.

The aim is to help you feel more connected to yourself, better able to manage emotional challenges, and more confident in responding to life’s difficulties.
